IIITA RAGGING incident ...Ground Reality

IIITA RAGGING...Ground Reality

After the so much media hype created because of the so-called ragging done by the 2nd year girl student (not final year) of IIIT ALLAHABAD to a fresher girl,

It was alleged that on July 19, 19 girl students of BTech-II year had harassed five first-year girl students. The matter came to light when the father of a girl complained to the director who, in turn, asked warden Shveta Singh to look into the matter.

I, a student of the senior batch of the college would like to present some facts……

There wasn’t absolutely any kind of physical or mental torture going on at that incident. The girl was just asking her name. What happened was that incidentally the junior’s guardian was there and noticed the incident. Also the girl happened to be a NRI (Australian) student. The person misinterpreted the incident and complained to the Australian Embassy. So from some damn source the press got this information, added its own damn imagination and ultimately created this entire “drama”.

Finally I would to say that this was entirely a publicity stunt done by our college to achieve.... god knows what………

What's your SOA IQ?

SOA is everyone's new favorite acronym. The pay-offs of SOA are large: facilitating greater business agility, enabling reuse of existing IT assets for new solutions, and lowering IT costs. But SOA is a tricky business, more complex in real life than simply spitting out the latest industry buzzwords. Real successful implementations require real knowledge, and in reality you either know it or you don't.

ebizQ has created this challenging quiz to test your SOA knowledge. In 10 multiple choice questions, you will find out where you fall on the SOA IQ continuum.

following content is a tutorial from service-architecture.com

Using the Web Services Description Language (WSDL)

The Web Services Description Language (WSDL) forms the basis for Web Services. The following figure illustrates the use of WSDL. At the left is a service provider. At the right is a service consumer. The steps involved in providing and consuming a service are:

  1. A service provider describes its service using WSDL. This definition is published to a directory of services. The directory could use Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI). Other forms of directories can also be used.
  2. A service consumer issues one or more queries to the directory to locate a service and determine how to communicate with that service.
  3. Part of the WSDL provided by the service provider is passed to the service consumer. This tells the service consumer what the requests and responses are for the service provider.
  4. The service consumer uses the WSDL to send a request to the service provider.
  5. The service provider provides the expected response to the service consumer.

More on Web Services Description Language (new window).

Web Services basics

Using Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI)

The directory shown in the above figure could be a UDDI registry. The UDDI registry is intended to eventually serve as a means of "discovering" Web Services described using WSDL . The idea is that the UDDI registry can be searched in various ways to obtain contact information and the Web Services available for various organizations. How much "discovery" will be used in the early days of Web Services is open to discussion. Nevertheless, even without the discovery portion, the UDDI registry is a way to keep up-to-date on the Web Services your organization currently uses. More on Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (new window). An alternative to UDDI is the ebXML Registry (new window).

Using SOAP

All the messages shown in the above figure are sent using SOAP. (SOAP at one time stood for Simple Object Access Protocol. Now, the letters in the acronym have no particular meaning .) SOAP essentially provides the envelope for sending the Web Services messages. SOAP generally uses HTTP , but other means of connection may be used. HTTP is the familiar connection we all use for the Internet. In fact, it is the pervasiveness of HTTP connections that will help drive the adoption of Web Services. More on SOAP and Messaging (new window).

The next figure provides more detail on the messages sent using Web Services. At the left of the figure is a fragment of the WSDL sent to the directory. It shows a CustomerInfoRequest that requires the customer's account to object information. Also shown is the CustomerInfoResponse that provides a series of items on customer including name, phone, and address items.

Web Services messaging

At the right of this figure is a fragment of the WSDL being sent to the service consumer. This is the same fragment sent to the directory by the service provider. The service consumer uses this WSDL to create the service request shown above the arrow connecting the service consumer to the service provider. Upon receiving the request, the service provider returns a message using the format described in the original WSDL. That message appears at the bottom of the figure.

Using XML with WSDL

WSDL uses XML to define messages. XML has a tagged message format. This is shown in the above figure. The tag has the value of Burnsville. And is the ending tag indicating the end of the value of city. Both the service provider and service consumer use these tags. In fact, the service provider could send the data shown at the bottom of this figure in any order. The service consumer uses the tags and not the order of the data to get the data values. More on the use of XML tags and a comparison of XML to using fixed record formats can be found in chapter 3 of Web Services and Service-Oriented Architectures: The Savvy Manager's Guide.

Simplified Web Services notation

For other figures on this site, a simplified notation will be used for Web Services. This is shown below. In the simplified notation, the directory is implicit in the wide rectangle labeled "Web Services" at the top of this figure. You could think of Web Services much like the bus in a PC in which you plug various circuit boards. Other middleware solutions appear similar and use the same "bus" concept. See Prior Service-Oriented Architecture specifications (new window).

Another important concept in service-oriented architectures is that any service provider could also be a service consumer. This is why the figure below shows only services at the bottom of the figure under the Web Services bus rather than a "service provider" and a "service consumer".

SOAP tutorial....Part 1

Posted by Shashank Krishna Monday, July 27, 2009

At the heart of Web services today are SOAP and WSDL, so it’s important that
you have a good understanding of them and how they’re used. That said, memorizing the details of SOAP and WSDL is not critical. While these technologies are central to Web services, in many cases you may not deal with them directly, as they will be hidden in the communication and deployment layer of the J2EE Web Services platform.

SOAP
SOAP was originally an acronym for Simple Object Access Protocol. (Now it’s just a name.) SOAP 1.1 is the standard messaging protocol used by J2EE Web Services, and is the de facto standard for Web services in general. SOAP’s primary application is Application-to-Application (A2A) communication. Specifically, it’s used in Business- to-Business (B2B) and Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).

Despite all the hoopla, however, SOAP is just another XML markup language
accompanied by rules that dictate its use. SOAP has a clear purpose: exchanging
data over networks. Specifically, it concerns itself with encapsulating and encoding
XML data and defining the rules for transmitting and receiving that data. In a
nutshell, SOAP is a network application protocol.

A SOAP XML document instance, which is called a SOAP message,1 is usually
carried as the payload of some other network protocol. For example, the most
common way to exchange SOAP messages is via HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol),
used by Web browsers to access HTML Web pages. The big difference is that
you don’t view SOAP messages with a browser as you do HTML. SOAP messages
are exchanged between applications on a network and are not meant for human
consumption. HTTP is just a convenient way of sending and receiving SOAP
messages.

The Basic Structure of SOAP

As you now know, a SOAP message is a kind of XML document. SOAP has its own
XML schema, namespaces, and processing rules. This section focuses on the structure
of SOAP messages and the rules for creating and processing them.

A SOAP Message That Contains an Instance of Purchase Order Markup

J2EE Web Services

This message is an example of a SOAP message that contains an arbitrary XML
element, the purchaseOrder element. In this case, the SOAP message will be One-
Way; it will be sent from the initial sender to the ultimate receiver with no expecta-
tion of a reply. Monson-Haefel Books’ retail customers will use this SOAP message
to submit a purchase order, a request for a shipment of books. In this example,
Amazon.com is ordering 300 copies of this book for sale on its Web site.

The Structure of a SOAP Message

SOAP Namespaces

XML namespaces play an important role in SOAP messages. A SOAP message may
include several different XML elements in the Header and Body elements, and to
avoid name collisions each of these elements should be identified by a unique name-
space. For example, a SOAP message that contains the purchaseOrder element as
well as message-id and XML digital-signature header blocks would include no
fewer than six different namespaces

Fix Nokia Expired Certificate Error

Posted by Shashank Krishna Saturday, July 18, 2009

Unfortunately, :( Nokia theme creator only gives a 6 month certificate to themes created with carbide. If the theme is over 6 months old, users will be prompted with an error on their handset "Expired certificate".

Fortunately it's easy to fix. Don't let this error put you off installing your chosen theme. It only takes a minute to get around and well worth it.

Simply set your Nokia's date back 1 year > Install the theme > Set the date back after installation. It's that simple

Eminem quotes - HIS ALBUMS

"Anybody with a sense of humor is going to put on my album and laugh from beginning to end." - On his album

"I think my first album opened a lot of doors for me to push the freedom of speech to the limit." - On his debut album

"I had nothing to lose, but something to gain. If I made an album for me and it was to my satisfaction, then I succeeded. The Slim Shady EP, I lashed out on everybody who talked shit about me." - On the Slim Shady EP

"I don't think I take the beef as seriously as they do, because I don't consider them artists. They look at me as an artist. I think they get more uptight about it. I can look at them and laugh. They can't do anything to me. What can they do to me? They have no credibility, no respect, no talent, they have nothing. All they can do is diss me vocally, they can't diss me lyrically. There's nothing they can do to me as far as the music goes. I don't take it as seriously as they do and I think that frustrates them. I think it's funny. " - On ICP

Eminem quotes - FAMILY AND FRIENDS

"Look. I was pissed off!" That's all I could say. I really felt that I wanted to do that shit. At one point in time, I really wanted to do that shit. For real." - On his wife Kim

This is the biggest hip-hop producer ever." - On Dr. Dre liking his music

"I don't like to give the sob story: growing up in a single-parent home, never knew my father, my mother never worked, and when friends came over I'd hide the welfare cheese. Yo, I failed ninth grade three times, but I don't think it was necessarily 'cause I'm stupid. I didn't go to school. I couldn't deal." .- On his early education "I mean I got jumped, fucked up shit happened to me a few times, but that happens to everybody. I don't think it has anything to do with color or any of that shit. It's just all a part of growing up." - On growing up in the hood

"My earliest memory was raping the babysitter when I was 5...she was 15." - On his younger years

Eminem quotes - LIFE

"I'm not alone in feeling the way I feel. I believe that a lot of people can relate to my shit--whether white, black, it doesn't matter. Everybody has been through some shit, whether it's drastic or not so drastic. Everybody gets to the point of 'I don't give a fuck'." – About his attitude

"I do say things that I think will shock people. But I don't do things to shock people. I'm not trying to be the next Tupac, but I don't know how long I'm going to be on this planet. So while I'm here, I might as well make the most of it." - On his philosophy for life

Eminem quotes - LYRICS

"If I said in one of my songs that my English teacher wanted to have sex with me in junior high, all I'm saying, is that I'm not gay, you know? People confuse the lyrics for me speaking my mind. I don't agree with that life style, but if that lifestyle is for you, then it's your business." – About his lyrics

Eminem quotes - MISCELLANEOUS

"You can't control who likes you. If I got Backstreet Boy fans what am I supposed to do? Turn them away? "To the people I forgot, you weren't on my mind for some reason and you probably don't deserve any thanks anyway." – Random comment

"I was takin' a shit. I swear to God. And the fuckin' name just popped into my head. Then I started thinkin' of twenty million things that rhymed with it." - On how he came up with the name Slim Shady (alter ego)

"I had this whole Slim Shady concept of being two different people, having two different sides of me. One of them I was trying to let go, and I looked at the mirror and smashed it. That was the whole intro of the Slim Shady EP. Slim Shady was coming to haunt me…" - On his Slim Shady alter ego

"Slim Shady is just the evil thoughts that come into my head. Things I shouldn't be thinking about. Not to be gimmicky, but people should be able to determine when I'm serious and when I'm fuckin around. That's why a lot of my songs are funny. I got a warped sense of humor I guess." - On his Slim Shady alter ego

"When I was 9 years old, my uncle put me on to the Breakin' soundtrack. The first rap song I ever heard was Ice-T, 'Reckless.' From L.L. to the Fat Boys, and all that shit, I was fascinated. utorrent in Ubuntu..the easy way..

Posted by Shashank Krishna

The following tutorial was published in softpedia
BitTorrent is the most popular P2P (peer-to-peer) file distribution protocol. Whether you want to share some files or you just want to get your hands on the latest Linux distributions, then you must use a BitTorrent client. There are many BitTorrent clients for Linux, starting with the old and classical BitTorrent (yes, just like the protocol) and ending with the brand new Deluge, and somewhere in the middle we can enumerate very popular BitTorrent clients like Azureus, Transmission or rTorrent, each one providing very interesting features and functionality.

On the other hand (and this is what we're gonna talk about today), if you have "Windows friends", you must have heard them talking about that very tiny and light BitTorrent client called uTorrent, a BitTorrent client with impressive features, like faster download speeds, intelligent configurable disk caching, trackerless support, etc. Now, you have Linux and that's a Windows application, what do you do? Very simple, follow the instructions below!

Editor's note: The following instruction assume that you have the latest version of the Linux operating system you use. In our case, Ubuntu!

Step 1 - Install Wine

Go to System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager...

Review image

Search for wine...

Review image

Click on the little box in front of the wine entry and select the "Mark for Installation" option...

Review image

Click the "Mark" button when asked to install the required dependencies...

Review image

Click the "Apply" button... and again to confirm the installation...

Review image

Wait for the packages to be downloaded...

Review image

...and installed...

Review image

When the installation is complete, close Synaptic and proceed to the next step!

Step 2 - Download and Install uTorrent

Download uTorrent's installer from here. Right click on the utorrent.exe file and choose the "Open with "Wine Windows Program Loader"" option...

Review image

The uTorrent installer wizard will appear. Uncheck all the boxes and click the "Install" button...

Review image

uTorrent's main window will appear!

Review image

Step 3 - Create uTorrent Desktop Shortcut

In this final step, we're gonna create a desktop shortcut for the uTorrent application that we've just installed.

Right click on your desktop and select "Create Launcher..."...
Review image

On the new launcher window, fill in the fields as follows:

Type: Application
Name: uTorrent
Command: wine "/home/YOURUSERNAME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/uTorrent/uTorrent.exe"

Review image

Note: Replace "YOURUSERNAME" in the Command field above, with your username (e.g. /home/marius)

Choose a suitable icon, and click OK. Now all you have to do in order to enjoy uTorrent is to double click on the uTorrent shortcut on your desktop. Enjoy!

Effects of improper Shutdown-Myths Busted

Posted by Shashank Krishna

When you improperly shut down your computer does it harm your computer hardware, or anything else in your computer?
I had found 2 views on this topic.Hope you fing them useful....

By http://askthegeek.kennyhart.com/

by "improperly shut down," I assume you mean pressing the power button instead of clicking Start->Shut Down from Windows. This won't harm any of your hardware. After all, Windows powers off the PC, too, when you do a "normal" shutdown. Think of it this way: Your computer is made from components similar to those in any other electronic device--like a stereo or TV--and you turn them on and off all the time without any bad effects. However, the data on your hard drive can be damaged by an improper shutdown.

This was a big problem back in the days of Windows 95 and 98. When you restarted after an improper shutdown, the operating system would come up asking you to run scandisk to correct hard disk errors. It's not as big a problem with Windows XP, but it does happen. If you remove power from the system while data is being written to your hard disk, the data will be incomplete and appear corrupt. Usually, though, a system hang severe enough to warrant pushing the power button is the result of a problem reading or loading a file and your PC won't suffer any ill effects if you power it down.

By Syschat.com

What is the significance of proper shut down? If an improper shut down occurs (probably due to a power supply failure, pulled plug, or the user just didn’t know how to use the computer), your registry files are forced to stop its operation without saving your recent works and other necessary settings that have been changed. In order to save works, make sure that before turning off your pc, you have saved your current work. In windows, after saving all the changes, a turn off button is pressed to finally confirm the shut down process. If you just want to reboot your computer, there is also a restart button for this. Also take note that once you have initiated the machine to shut down, do not turn off or pull the power plug of the device immediately unless your computer has literally stopped running. This is usually noted if the monitor has no more output and the mouse and keyboard input response have stopped.

A possible unsuccessful system restore is another disadvantage brought forth by an improper or illegal shut down. For those who don’t know about system restore, it is a windows component that enables computers to be restored to a previous state. System restore automatically creates restore points daily. If an improper shut down occurs during the process of a system restore, an inconsistency into the changed log occurs. This affects the whole restoration process, thus being unsuccessful.

Whenever an improper shut down occurs, the computer automatically initiates disk check up as soon as it reboots. It is strongly recommended that you let the computer scan its disk for system errors because these mentioned errors, as well as lost data files and files not in proper location are the basic effects of an improper shut down. These unwanted bad sectors may soon cause your computer to have decreased level of performance and efficiency.

Another harmful effect of an improper shut down that may be considered as fatal is the hardware failure. 2 of the most significant parts of a hard disk are the platters and the read write head. The platters are coated with magnetic substances used for recording data while the read write head examines or alters the data. The data manipulation and examination is done through constant rubbing of the platters and the read write head. During proper shut down process, the hard disk’s rotating platters slows down until it stops. If an improper shut down occurs, the rotating platters stop in an abrupt manner. This causes unwanted scratches on the platters. And these scratches may have drastic effects on the hard disk’s performance.

Adding your Gravatar to Blogger

Posted by Shashank Krishna Thursday, July 9, 2009

I recently learned about Gravatar (globally recognized avatar). It's a pretty neat website that allows you to host an avatar and use it all over the web. Some blogging applications have support for Gravatar but Blogger doesn't (yet). I have found out how to get your Gravatar onto Blogger. Simply go to gravatar.com and sign up, then upload your avatar and assign it to your email address. If you don't know what to use as an avatar you could Simpsonize yourself like I did. Once that is done you will need the link to your gravatar, that isn't easily accessible from the gravatar website, but you can work it out. The URL starts like this:
http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=
On the end of the url you need to put a MD5 hash on the end of it. Visit miracle salad to create your MD5 hash. On the miracle salad page simply enter the email you used to sign-up to Gravatar in the "string" text box and click "md5". Copy the string it provides you and paste it onto the end of the url above, it should then look something like this:
http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=a523b634c1fe4e20ba8a727bd2b3f9f3

You can now use that URL to post your gravatar anywhere.
